PSIMES presented with Penn State Alumni Association's Membership Award

11/9/2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Society (PSIMES) was honored for its efforts to grow membership as the recipient of the Penn State Alumni Association’s Membership Award at the association’s 2017 Volunteer Award Ceremony on Oct. 20.

PSIMES set a goal of increasing social media engagement with alumni by promoting its LinkedIn platform and encouraging new industrial engineering graduates to join the group. Because of these efforts, the society grew its social media group membership by 22 percent over the past three years.

Some of the benefits of increased membership in PSIMES include providing undergraduates with mentorship programs, résumé assistance and career guidance. It also provides alumni with opportunities to network with each other, act as a mentor, provide guidance to the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and be more involved in Penn State activities and programs.

“Members of the PSIMES Board of Directors relentlessly volunteer their time and talent to give back to the University, provide networking opportunities for industrial engineering alums and pay it forward by investing in the future of our undergraduates. Our board does not seek recognition but this award is special, and for that we graciously thank the Penn State Alumni Association,” said Terri Green (’81 IE), president of the PSIMES Board.

In 2016, John Grese (’85 IE), a member of the PSIMES Board, benchmarked the activities of alumni groups at other Big Ten schools in order to understand how to better connect with the Penn State industrial engineering (IE) alumni base. As a result, the PSIMES Board, which meets monthly, is preparing to launch a new Job Shadow Program in the spring of 2018. This program will pair Penn State IE alumni who are now professionals with IE undergrads to provide career guidance.

PSIMES was established in 1998 as an affiliate program group of the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society. For more information, visit the PSIMES page.
