IE Colloquium: Big Data Problems

Girts Karnitis, professor of computer science at the University of Latvia, will be the speaker.

Devoted to discovering and discussing the hot topic — what it is “Big Data,” where it comes from, what new opportunities and problems it brings, and how to deal with the identified ones. Data is useless unless you know what you want to do with it. Do people know? Insight into the future big opportunities and big dilemmas. Are we drowning in our own data? Privacy breaches vs added benefit due to Big Data powered apps and services? Let’s explore step by step.

About the speaker

Dr. Girts Karnitis is a professor of computer science at the University of Latvia, having More than 20 years of experience in research and development in the field of computer science. He is currently teaching undergraduate and graduate students about databases, data integration and data management. His research interests include Big Data management and business process modeling, among other areas, and he has helped author more than 20 publications since 2008.
