UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Hui Yang will join the faculty of the department as the Harold and Inge Marcus Career Associate Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in August. Yang is currently an assistant professor in the Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department at the University of South Florida (USF).

“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Hui Yang to our department,” said Harriet B. Nembhard, professor and interim department head of the Marcus department. “Hui has already achieved impressive levels in his career including a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, authorship of more than 20 journal articles and application for two patents. His energy, drive and leadership will be a valuable addition to our faculty.”

Yang comes to Penn State after six years at USF where he also served as affiliate faculty member for the Nanotechnology Research and Education Center and the Electrophysiology Core Group in the Morsani College of Medicine. He is a research associate in cardiology at the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla., and a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Data Sciences Consortium at USF.

“I am excited and honored to join the prestigious faculty of the [Harold and Inge Marcus] Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering,” said Yang. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to such a renowned and well-respected program and I look forward to collaborating with faculty, staff and students to continue the tradition of excellence in industrial engineering at Penn State.”

Yang’s research interests include sensor-based modeling and analysis of complex systems for process monitoring, fault diagnostics/prognostics and quality improvement and performance optimization.

In addition to his contributions to scholarly journals, he recently co-authored a book titled Healthcare Data Analytics.

He is an active member of numerous professional associations and groups including the American Heart Association, the Institute for Industrial Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Alpha Pi Mu, the American Society of Engineering Education and the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences.

Yang received his doctorate in industrial engineering and management from Oklahoma State University in 2009 with a minor in mathematics. He also earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the China University of Mining and Technology in Beijing.
