This 9-credit program encompasses the design and development of products for human use. This highly flexible certificate program enables you to enhance your knowledge in the field of product and workplace design. The program teaches students how to emphasize the application of user engineering design principles and the tools and methods to assess and enhance quality and productivity for both consumers and employees.

The study of human factors engineering and ergonomics is generally considered to have its origins during World War II. It has grown to encompass virtually every industry, including product design and development and design engineering. With rapid advances in science and technology, the discipline is becoming more important as employers and employees take a more proactive role to prevent workplace injuries, reduce health care costs, and optimize the interaction between people and systems to enhance safety, performance, usability, and satisfaction.
