Penn State frequently collaborates with companies large and small that are interested in supporting industrial and manufacturing engineering education and research efforts.

By providing Penn State industrial students with machinery and tools, internships, co-op opportunities, design projects, and research programs, our corporate partners help our faculty prepare students for the type of work they will experience after graduation. 

Our partnerships with these companies are beneficial to both parties; we assist with engineering projects, processes, and problems while our business partners provide students with the real-world experience they need to be successful, industrial engineering professionals with a global view of business and manufacturing.

Funding Opportunities

There are numerous opportunities for industry to help support the efforts of the department, including:

  • Engineering Career Fair
  • Industrial Engineering Career Fair
  • Engineering Career Resources and Employer Relations Office - internships and co-ops
  • Information sessions/panel discussions via Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE)
  • Senior-level Capstone Design Projects
  • Distributing internship and/or co-op opportunities to industrial engineering students
  • Partnering to provide applied research projects at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Organize factory tours for students via either a student organization or a specific industrial engineering course
  • Collaborate through departmental research centers and/or labs
  • Sponsoring events, such as the IISE Annual Awards Banquet, held annually in the spring
