Industrial engineering alum to receive College of Engineering's highest honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Tim Dickson ('92 IE) has been named a recipient of the College of Engineering's Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award.
Dickson is the former executive director and chief information officer (CIO) for emerging technologies and user experience at Dell, Inc. In this role, he was responsible for the strategic adoption of emerging technologies and improving the information technology (IT) experience of Dell employees.
Prior to his appointment as CIO at Dell, Dickson created and led the Channel IT and IT mergers and acquisitions integration teams for the company.
Effective April 20, Dickson will join Motorola Solutions as the vice president of front office IT.
He has more than 20 years of software industry and leadership experience including a combined 10 years of service at IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and i2 Technologies in various software development and IT leadership roles.
He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas.
Dickson will be honored on April 14 during a ceremony at the Nittany Lion Inn.
During his visit to campus, Dickson will meet with department faculty, staff, and students; serve as a guest speaker; and tour the industrial engineering facilities.
A plaque recognizing his achievements will also reside within the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
Established in 1966, the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed by the college and recognizes graduates who have reached exceptional levels of professional achievement.
