Undergraduate Research Program

The Undergraduate Research Program in the department provides opportunities for our undergraduate students to get hands-on experience in state-of-the-art research labs under the guidance of our world-renowned faculty — all while earning some extra money.

Each semester we offer a wide variety of projects within the industrial engineering domain for which students can apply. Those students selected for a project gain invaluable experience that not only looks good on a resume but also opens the door to new career pathways.

The program also helps prepare students who are interested in exploring graduate program options — either in industrial engineering or a related field — for the rigors of research.

How it works

Each semester faculty members submit projects for which they are looking for undergraduate researchers.

Industrial engineering undergraduates can then apply for positions that pique their interest.

Applications go through a vetting process by our faculty and students are notified if they have been selected for a given project.

The research projects require students to work 10 hours per week for 10 weeks of the semester.

Students are paid $10 per hour during the 10 weeks of research work. A student’s assignment to a project may be extended into future semesters at the discretion of the faculty member.

Fall 2019

  • Student application period runs from Wednesday, September 4 to Tuesday, September 10 at 11:59 p.m.
