Mentor Selection Process

A few weeks after registering, students are sent a link to a portal with all available mentors listed. The students should review the options and select a mentor who has credentials related to the student’s primary questions.

To help students select the best mentor, the following information will be provided:

  • Current company at which the mentor works
  • Current and former roles held
  • Graduation year
  • Proximity to Penn State
  • Interests
  • Hobbies
  • Likelihood to travel to campus for a meeting

For example, if a student has a question about the value of a master of business administration, they can filter to mentors who hold that degree. If a student is interested in a particular industry, they can select a mentor who has experience in that industry.

The student and mentor will receive an email notification that they have been matched. Once notified, it is the mentor’s responsibility to make first contact with the student.
