5/25/2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Soundar Kumara, Allen E. Pearce/Allen M. Pearce Professor in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial Engineering at Penn State, has been named a keynote speaker at the 2015 International Through-life Engineering Services Conference to be held Nov. 3-4 at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom.

“It is an honor to have been invited to speak at this important international event,” said Kumara. “I look forward to discussing potential opportunities in through-life engineering and trading ideas with colleagues in academia and industry.”

Kumara has completed extensive work in web services and service computing. His keynote will focus on “Service Computing for Through-Life Engineering.

Hosted by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-life Engineering Services, the conference brings together engineers and scientists from academia, research institutes and industry to exchange ideas and discuss developments and advances in through-life engineering services.

Beyond keynote speeches, the conference will feature industrial workshops and academic sessions.

Through-life engineering services typically generate 50-60 percent of the revenue in many companies and that percentage is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.

The goal of the EPSRC Centre is to improve the availability, predictability and reliability of complex engineering products to deliver the lowest possible whole lifecycle cost by developing technologies and processes to improve the design and manufacturing of such systems.
