Voigt appointed technical liaison of local foundry society chapter

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Robert Voigt, professor of industrial engineering at Penn State, has been named the technical liaison for the Keystone Chapter of the American Foundry Society (AFS).
In this role, Voigt is charged with keeping the chapter’s membership informed of new techniques and materials applicable to the foundry process and industry.
“Dr. Voigt is uniquely qualified to serve in this position with his past experiences of moving the cast metal industry forward as premier manufacturers and industry suppliers in the state of Pennsylvania,” said Rick Boyd, secretary/treasurer of the AFS Keystone Chapter. “He continues to provide the technical and operating knowledge necessary to our industry with original research and presentations across a wide venue of technical societies.”
Founded in 1896, the AFS serves more than 700 corporate members and close to 8,000 individual members including metalcasting suppliers and original equipment manufacturing facilities in more than 41 countries worldwide, covering all metalcasting processes and materials.
Voigt is an outspoken champion of metalcasting and he currently serves as the liaison for the Cast Metal Industry Advisory Committee, a group that provides academic programming advice and industry feedback to the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
He is also the faculty adviser for the AFS student chapter at Penn State, which hosts career fairs and foundry events each semester for students interested in metalcasting.
“Dr. Voigt is an inspiration to his students and associates,” added Boyd. “Many of our operating management and technical professionals have had the opportunity to study under Dr. Voigt’s direction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and could not speak more highly of his knowledge and insight into the metal casting industry.”
